Christina DeMeere is an Independent Living Specialist and the Youth Education Coordinator for the Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) Program which focuses on out of school youth at the St. Clair County BWCIL office. Christina’s roles and responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating GED preparation for out of school youth in St. Clair County; development and implementation of program marketing strategy; maintaining relationships with local organizations and GED testing site; providing educational tutoring; development and facilitation of education focus groups and peer support groups; utilization of crisis intervention skills; development of a person centered Independent Living Plan for each program participant; maintaining records of all program participants files, GED testing scores and program progress; providing counseling services; providing case management and follow up services; processing youth emergency need requests; processing youth incentive requests; advocacy; and assisting consumers in achieving personal independence.
Christina strives to demonstrate competence and sensitivity when working with client systems from diverse backgrounds, as well as provide opportunities that promote independent living. Christina has a Bachelor of Social Work from Wayne State University. She is a member of the National Association for Workforce Development Professionals and National Association of Social Workers. Christina is a past recipient of the Shining Star award given annually by the BWCIL in recognition of her dedication and hard work. Christina is available at the Port Huron BWCIL office five days a week
