Valorie Hudgens has been an Independent Living Specialist at the BWCIL for three years. Her areas of expertise are in Long-Term Care and MMAP/MIPPA. She assists in finding the resources for individuals wanting to transition from nursing homes to community living in Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, St Clair and Tuscola Counties.

Through her work and education, Valorie has accumulated expertise on issues relating to aging and disability in Michigan. She has a Master degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. Ms. Hudgens is also certificated in the Michigan Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MAAP), Medicare Improvements for Providers and Patients Act (MIPPA), Stepping Stones to Recovery (SOAR), Person Center Planning (PCP), Accessibility Assessment Phase 1(Structural Assessment) and Phase 2 (Recreational Assessment), Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) Certification.

Along with assisting individuals transitioning out of nursing homes, Valorie represents the BWCIL in all five counties at Senior Community Coalitions and Aging and Disability Coalitions and acts as the liaison to the 3 Area Agencies on Aging in the BWCIL service area.

Valorie is available five days a week and can be contacted at the St. Clair County office of the BWCIL.
